California Title 20

The current Appliance Efficiency Regulations, (California Code of Regulations, Title 20, Sections 1601 through 1608), dated September 2012, contain amendments that were adopted by the California Energy Commission on January 12, 2012, and replaced all previous versions.
These Appliance Efficiency Regulations include standards for both federally regulated appliances and non-federally regulated appliances. Twenty-three categories of appliances are included in the scope of these regulations. This site covers the 5 lighting related categories.
In general, the effective date of this standard is February 1, 2013.
However, most of the individual clauses are effective based on the manufacturing date of the specific equipment.

Generically, the scope of Title 20 can be stated as:
The standards within these regulations apply to appliances that are sold or offered for sale in California, except those sold wholesale in California for final retail sale outside the state and those designed and sold exclusively for use in recreational vehicles or other mobile equipment.

The lighting products currently in Title 20 are:
     Fluorescent Lamp Ballasts
Exit Signs & Self-Contained Lighting Controls
     Luminaires & Torchieres
     Battery Chargers

The scope within those individual product categories is covered in the training downloads to the right.
